Downtown Auburnâs new Target opening in July is 4-stories high and will have apartments
Target’s newest location in Alabama is set to open next month in the Loveliest Village of the Plain.
The new retail store will fill a 19,200-square-foot space on the ground floor of a ground floor of a four-story building at 129 College St. in Auburn.
According to the Auburn-Opelika News, there will be space for 32 apartments and a parking lot behind the Godbold building, with room for 42 spaces. The store is similar to one in Athens, Ga.

Target has another location in Opelika at Tiger Town Outdoor Shopping Center, as well as stores in 17 other Alabama cities. This new Auburn location is closer to campus.
All State Glass of Birmingham, a commercial glass and glazing subcontractor, participated in the project, outfitting both the store and the exterior of the building. Mitch Wallace, of the company, said their part of the project took about five months.
According to the Opelika Observer, the subject of Target’s distinctive red colors came up during a recent Auburn City Council meeting. Resident Ty Torbert referenced a Whataburger location near Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa with signage that does not feature any of the franchise’s standard orange coloring.
“I was wondering if it is a possibility to do the same here with the Target,” Torbert said. “With it resembling, as we all are aware of, our biggest rivals’ colors.”
However, one city official said that Target insisted on keeping its traditional colors.
“I’m sure they’re going to have a lot of Auburn gear and a lot of toilet paper,” Development Services Executive Director Scott Cummings said, according to the news site.
